The truth is that unless you ask for a natural latex mattress or a Talalay latex mattress the odds are that you may be sold a "Latex Bed" which contains inferior synthetic latex.  They may also be constructed with a few inches of latex on top (possibly not even natural latex), and then bonded to layers of a cheaper, synthetic urethane foam.

Because botanical latex is more expensive and requires technical expertise to process and package, most large discount mattress companies simply do not have the margins which permit the use of a Natural Latex in their bedding programs.

The use of petrochemically derived synthetic latex results in a inferior product, which can cause settling problems. Natural latex does not settle or pack down like other kinds of foam beds, air beds, conventional coil mattresses, futons, or pillowtop mattresses.

Natural Latex is gathered from plantations located in the island country of Sri Lanka.  This is where the best premium white latex rubber is grown and harvested in a tropical mountainous climate.
